The inspiration is from the example Mr. Avery gave the class. The example was that the story has something to do with my own life in an ironic way. I am similar to the man because I am trying to pass the gate of education and there are obstacles I have to face along the way to having a good education. The doorkeeper (the obstacle) is education. The gate in my story leads to success. No matter how difficult the task is you can’t give up because in the end the struggle will be worth it!
In front of the gate of success stood a doorkeeper known as Education. As you get older you need success in order to have a good life. If you passed education you would have easy success. But it is not as easy as it sounds, education gets more difficult along the way and you get smarter. In order to pass education you would need to put 120% into school work.
One day I strolled down the hallway that lead me right in front of education. The gate was golden and all I could do was staring. “The gate to success is behind me isn’t it beautiful, why don’t you take a peek at your future,” said Education. As I put my eye on the crack I saw fortune, success, happiness, and everything else I always dreamed of having. “This is MY gate MY future well can I go in?” “No, first you must prove yourself worthy by doing well in your education. When you grow older you can have this life but if you don’t you won’t be able to become a billion dollar paid lawyer!”
As education explained the rest of my future to me he also explained to me what happened if I didn’t care about my education. He told me to peak in that option too. I was in a court house in this one standing in front of the judge. It looked the same until I saw what I was wearing; it was an orange jump suit and matching silver cuffs! “You see, since you didn’t go to college you thought you could become a lawyer without a degree so you got arrested. And since you couldn’t defend yourself you spent the rest of your life in jail because no one had money to bail you out!” “So in order to have a great life I need a great education too, wow that is so much work!” “Yes, but it will be worth it.”
As I thought about it, education was right, working hard does pay off. “Come back when you think you’re ready for your life to begin.”I had forgotten all about Education and the gate until I had graduated Harvard. Then I knew it was time. When I went there education was still in the same spot I left him at, when I came I might have even seen a smile on his face. I told him I was ready and then I stepped into my life and couldn’t wait to start it!

In Before the Law the man from the country often did things that didn’t prove him worthy. He did these things because he couldn’t rely on himself to make it through the gate without bribery. He thought it would help but it just made things worse on his part. The last few sentences in the story relate to mine because the man from the country wanted to get through the gate and he thought he was ready but he was wrong and needed to prove himself worthy. The last conversation the man and the doorkeeper had was: “everyone strives to reach the law, so how does it happen for all these many years no one but myself has ever begged for admittance?” “No one else could ever be admitted here, since this gate was only made for you; I am now going to shut it!”
As the years went on I achieved everything I thought I would and was ready for more. Nothing could stop me now. I won almost every case and never doubted myself. I never forgot Education or the gate but one day I figured something out, the gate was open to me throughout my whole life. I could have entered it whenever I felt I was ready. I could have been ready whenever I thought I was or I could wait until I knew I was! I figured it out one day when I was in court working on a case. Having success in education is real important because when you get older you will need it and maybe the gate won’t be open anymore, so use your time wisely and always try your best!

The idea is from the example, Before the Law. We also have a copy of Before the Law. The example was that the story has something to do with my own life. I am somewhat the man because I am trying to pass the gate of dance. There will be many obstacles I have to face along the way. The doorkeeper (the obstacle) is dancing. All I see when I enter is fog and a lot of it, there’s a door keeper near a huge golden gate. I decided to take a peek through them.
The door keeper told me “What do you think you’re doing?” “Umm I’m looking through those gates.” “Why?” “Cause those gates look really important.” “Well they are, they tell you your future.” “Could tell me a little about my future?” “You will become a wise young lady, in dancing you will be in millions of music videos.” I said “May I take a peek.” He told me “No you may not because you have to see when you reach there. Also you will have a good degree as a Lawyer.”
And I said “How will I get there.” “By staying in the right path and try your best.” “Thank you I’ll see you when I know when the time is right.” “Alright see you later.” A couple of years pass by. I went through a lot. My driver’s license, a part time job and meet new and old friends along the way. I graduate high school as valid Victorian and same thing in college. I graduate at UCLA School of Law.
After I graduated college I went to the door keeper. When I saw him he was jumping more than a kangaroo hoping away from his pray. He told me your future will be bright now you can go through the gates.” “Once you go through those gates you will need to overcome harder obstacles do you think you’re ready?” “Yes” The door keeper gave me a great big bear then said good luck. “Bye” “Bye!”
Right then and there I have entered something that I’ve always wanted. From that day I never forgot dance. He was a nice man. I know everything that was happening to me. I guess those years of college paid off. I also got my own dance studio. The name is Dream BIG! The studio was for only kids that believed that they want to dance. The type of dance theme is Hip Hop. So I’m going to remember that I should keep going because there are going to be more obstacles that well are really hard so I have to get up and keep on going.

My story has its inspiration from, “Before the Law”. In, “Before the Law,” there was a character named the man from the country. I am somewhat like him because I want to pass my own personal gate; this gate is the gate of Chemistry. Unfortunately, the gate is blocked by a huge glass beaker can’t even budge from its position. Despite of this large obstacle I am determined to overcome it and reach my dreams.
As I approach the large glass beaker, I feel that the inanimate object is somewhat staring at me very ominously. Then as I try to push the large beaker aside I hear a voice saying very vaguely, “What are you doing, you can’t enter!” I jump to my feet surprised to see that the voice came from the beaker! “ You can not pass until you endure a heavy burden.” “What is this burden you speak of,” I say to the beaker. “You must learn the ways of the chemist for approximately six years!”
So I set out a journey to find the place in which I may learn the ways of this so-called chemist. After many days of searching I find a place called the California Institute of technology. I enroll to this school for exactly six years and learn many things such as atomic bonds and various facts about complicated molecules found through out the earth. After those six years of intense studying I earn a degree in chemistry and I also get a masters degree. Finally I am ready to head back tell the mighty beaker of my achievements.
At the gate of chemistry I tell the beaker of all the good I have done in those six grueling years of hard work. “You are finally ready to enter these gates.” The gates finally open and I can see chemicals being mixed and combined, experiments being held, and the world’s problems being vanquished thanks to chemistry! Slowly walked in the gold gates and saw a paradise only of which I have dreamed of. I have overcome my obstacle.
In conclusion I have overcome my obstacle because I set out to do the hard work needed to complete my dreams. In, “Before the Law,” the man from the country chose not to do his share of hard work, so he never got to pass his gate. The moral is that in order to make our dreams a reality, we must strive for them by doing hard work. I would’ve ever completed my goal in the story without my determination and persistence. So with this said, I believe we should all go out into the world and make our dreams real!

After years of hard work in academics, I the man have finished my education and I will now set my sites on the gates. As I go to the gates, I noticed there three doorkeepers beside the gates of heaven. “I hope you don’t think your entering these gates” replied the doorkeeper. At that moment my knees was shaking with fear in which no words came out of my mouth. “Not exactly Mr. Doorkeeper, I just wanted to know do you allow people to go through this gate?” it was as if the doorkeeper didn’t hear me so I said it loudly again”. “Listen young man it’s very obvious that I let people through this gate it just depends who it is, it is definitely not you so run along said the doorkeeper!”

Once I got that reply, I began to get mad. “Look Mr. I have come to you today to get through the gates and I just hope you understand that I’m a good man and not an enemy”. The doorkeeper didn’t say anything and just grabbed a tool,” just sit young man and wait till I come back” demanded by the doorkeeper. It took years and days before the doorkeeper came back which then I realized that I turned 40 yesterday. “Hurry up Mr. I need to go through the gates before I die”. Later that day the doorkeeper came back and shook his head. I was outranged and was ready to go right through the gate. “Sorry young man but you are not allowed in the gate because you are a stranger and no one knows who you are.” the doorkeeper said. “I have lost my patience with you sir; please let me through these gates and you will feel good about what you’ve done.”

“I’m very sorry young man, but I can not let you go through this gate” replied the doorkeeper. I was so tired of being denied and was so exhausted by that doorkeeper that I was about to give up. Two hours later I had an idea, I would try disguises to get past the doorkeeper. First I tried to be a farmer and tried to bring some corn passed the doorkeeper but that was unsuccessful. Then I tried to be a god that was just a waste of time because I got push off the palace. The only thing left in my mind was to be was a doorkeeper; luckily there was a doorkeeper suit behind the palace. I put it on and went right into the gate behind the first doorkeeper, then when I arrived through the second doorkeeper my hat fell off and I got pushed off the palace again.

When I turned 70, I was real old and was unsuccessful on every try there was to do. I finally decided to try one more time at the doorkeeper, which was the toughest one out of three. “What do you want now old man” said the doorkeeper. “I want to go through the gate sir, there is nothing else I can do to go passed you. It’s before the law and I want to go passed the gate please!!!!!!!”. “Ok old man I will let you know when I come back, sit down.” The doorkeeper replied. After 20 years I was ready to die at age 89, the doorkeeper finally came out and said “I will let you in old man”. I couldn’t walk any more but I crawled to the gate and waited 10 minutes before I went in.

It took 47 years but my dream finally came true and I was able to get passed all the doorkeepers. I crawled to doorkeeper three and I got passed. Even though I was able to get passed all the doorkeepers I didn’t make it up the stairs” before the law” because I suddenly died at the third step. It was a long journey but it paid off and I finally passed through the gates of heaven.

As a child, whenever I did anything that seemed risky, my fears always conquered my decisions. I was afraid that I would hurt myself or those around me. My parents and older siblings would always have to supervise actions. As a result, I felt guilty every time I took someone else’s time. Eventually, I knew I had to conquer my fears, and start taking control of my life. My father helped me grow out of my fears. This story is inspired by my father because he once told me that any obstacle is possible to overcome as long you put faith in yourself.
One day my father told me that I shouldn’t be shy and tell him about how I felt about going to Charter school. I knew that Charter had better classes and had a better grading system. However, I knew that it would mean making a few sacrifices. For one, I would have to leave my friends behind, would have to readjust to a new school environment, and purchase costly school supplies. My father told me that it was okay for me to choose to attend either the Charter school or the middle school. Having needed to make this decision, I started to think positively about Charter school. If I went to Charter I knew that I would be challenged so that I would get used to it in the future. It would also make my father proud. So I decided to attend to Charter.
There once was a building where people went for life’s exciting journey and education. Inside the building was a door and in front of it, a doorkeeper. The doorkeeper looked like a shadow. It would always change into something you feared and block the way. The doorkeeper saw me look curiously at the door and him. “Would you like to see?” it asked. So it opened the door just enough to see what was in there, and what I saw was amazing. All the fun and joys in life was in that door. I wanted to go in, but the door keeper shut the door. He said “I wouldn’t go in there.” I replied “Why shouldn’t I go in there?” “All the possibilities would happen to me in the future if I could go in there.” It then morphed to the people I knew said “But what about your old friends. You would also have to adapt and change” That made me unconfident and cowardly.
I knew that I could adapt and make knew friends. It was just that I needed to be brave instead of having my fears cloud my judgment. I went outside the building and thought to myself that I’ve gone and moved to many different places before. I adapted and change to different environments and made many friends. So then I figured out that these are problems are easy and there were positive sides of going in there. 1. I would get smarter. 2. I would make different friends 3. I could have a better future. So I went back inside to the building.
I told the doorkeeper “Please move.” He laughed and said “You still are not ready. But then I stepped through the shadow and it disappeared. At first the gate was locked, but then the shadow came out and morphed into a tiny key. I picked up the key to pen the door, and stepped in. In conclusion this story is some what similar to “Before the Law”. Only at the end is when it’s different because instead of taking action the man only waited and let fear run his life. I think we can always control our future and lives. As long as you’re confident and brave.

  10. In Before The Law the man does over come the doorkeeper. If i am the man and i over come the doorkeeper, i have to lead myself the right path because after i defeat my obstacle i am on my own. Its like when i pass the 7th grade going on to the 8th grade i am gonna have to pass harder and harder obstacles each grade is harder.
For instance the the man in Before The Law it was the mans choice to keep and keep fighting to get to the other side. In life you have to make your decisions aand succeed with those choices. No one can make you do something that you dont want to do. If i were the man i and i got to cross the gate then i'm guessing i will be successful because thats what i choose i will be. Also thats the way i lead myself.
In life you also have to prove to yourself that you can do this and that. Like when i found out that i had to get sent to Charter School all i could think was "I'm going to fail!" all i could hear from my mom and dad were no you will
actually have a better future just by going to that school. Now i am just giving it a try maybe it will be better then i tought it will be. Charter school though is strict and thats good because puts me on my game and ti FOCUS!
All i could think if i pass that gate is life will be better and so much successful. Charter School is a college prep and it can open doors for me for thencollege i want to go. Which is Hardvard College, from what i have heard that is a college really successful. Especially that i want to be a physcologist and Hardvard has many classes of that. If i am successful it will be easier for me to get in that college and maybe i wont even have to pay for my classes! (:

During class I was having a hard time paying attention. My mind began to wander. It wasn’t long before I began to fall behind in class. I received a warning that I was in danger of failing. Distraction stood in the way of my success. I knew that if I could just learn to focus, I would pass the class.

Distraction loved video games, knew my favorite television shows and just liked to talk about exciting things. He seemed so much more interesting than what I was learning in school. I paid less and less attention in school. I was so busy listening to distraction, I forgot to take notes in class. Without the notes, I couldn’t complete homework or study for tests. There was no way I’d graduate if I continued to hang out with distraction.

In Before the Law, the man from the country “decides it is better to wait until he gets permission to enter” instead of trying. I knew that if I wanted to overcome my obstacle, of distraction I needed introduce myself to focus. Unlike the man from the country, I had to try something. I realized that the more I saw focus, the less I felt distracted. Focus brought me closer and closer to my success.

In Before the Law the doorkeeper says, “but take note: I am powerful.” Distraction didn’t give up without a fight either. When a subject became challenging, distraction would try to get my attention. Distraction would tell me to just give up and stop associating with focus. I didn’t want to end up like the man from the country who wasted his life away. I was determined to defeat distraction so that I could be successful.

Sometimes an obstacle doesn’t always look like one. It may be disguised as something fun. However if it comes between you and success, it is not a good thing. It is easy to give up and just do nothing. Becoming friends with focus was one of my best decisions. Overcoming distraction by learning to focus is what helped me pass that class.

  13. Befor the law ment a lot back then especially for a very determined teenager who then graduatede his senior year in highschool. he got his diploma tthen went on and started to surf the sights in his special place that he was sent to. he left highschool and went all the way to his sacret place where he has been dreaming to go. as soon as he got there he saw one great gate bordering the whole place like the great wall of China. it was very exciting and also interesting too.he aproached the gates when he saw vtwo very strict guards he approached them with a manner of fear and did not let him pass.
He had a sad face and questoin very anxoisly why won't you let me pass the man said because you have no I.D. . So what If I dont have I.D. well before the law you did not need to have I.D. the n but now they have passed many laws the we Citizens have to follow. So the man sighed and waited.
He had An idea of persauding them to let them in and he said well did you know that before the lw you were allowed to walk anywhere and even in gates guarded by doorkeepres like yourself. Well that does not mean anything to me and others too. Well since you say that i guess that you are not coming in for a while now are'nt we. Many days and many Nights the man wiated ande that afternoon the guard said well since we have made you wiat long enough I guess you can go in.
The man so excited and praisng with joy the gate keepers opened the gate and said enjoy! The man slowly walked in an saw so many people in suites waiting to be lawlers and so was he off with so many questions and desires to become one of the greatest lawlers the world has to give. And the man lived his dream and did what he wanted to become and did not care what others thought of him. And that is what the Man Did "Before the Law".

Believe in yourself, overcome obstacles, and by that you will succeed in life. A woman from the city wants to be a doctor. But she has to go through criticism, getting good grades in school, and believing in herself to become a doctor. In “Before the Law” the man from the country loses faith in passing the gate and waited for the doorkeeper to say, “You can come past.” Instead of losing faith like the man, the woman gains faith after she passes each doorkeeper.
A woman from the country wants to be a doctor. So she goes to medical school. As she walks to the school she sees a huge gate with a doorkeeper on the side. Standing in front of the doorkeeper the woman says, “Hi, I am here to be a doctor.” The doorkeeper says, “There are more doorkeepers after me that are more powerful.” The woman tells the man “I am never going to give up.” The doorkeeper says,” you don’t have what it takes and you won’t succeed.” The woman says,” I will be a doctor and nobody will stop me!” The doorkeeper respects her wish to be a doctor so he lets her go past but she still has to go through two more doorkeepers.
As she approaches the second doorkeeper he looks a lot bigger and stronger than the first doorkeeper. She tells the doorkeeper that she is here to become a doctor and really needs to pass this door to continue to the last doorkeeper. The doorkeeper says,” you will never be able to be a doctor.” She responded, “I will be a doctor,” I will be a doctor, and nobody will stand in my way.” She proudly walks past the second doorkeeper.
The woman reaches the last doorkeeper and he looks really scary, but no matter what she is going to be a doctor. She walks up to the doorkeeper and says, “Look, I really need to pass this door mister.” The doorkeeper says, “How much do you want to be a doctor.” The woman says, “I want to be a doctor really badly, ever since I was a kid, and I won’t leave until I can get pass this last door.” The doorkeeper says,” If you want this so badly, then you may pass. The woman takes a deep breath and walks into the door and sees her future in front of her.
In “Before the Law” the man from the country didn’t to reach his goal. But in this story she did accomplish her goal. She did it without losing faith. She gained faith ever time she overcame an obstacle. The woman became a doctor and she makes very good money.

    Homework: The Strainer

Before the Law there was no freedom of speech. The power of the Strainer was limited. The holes were tight and every word was dictated. There was no room for the holes of the Strainer to allow anything personal. The Strainer had to report what was given to them. The only opinion allowed was that of the dictator.

People listen to the Strainer with great expectation, for all that was happening in the world. This is why I desired to be a strainer, because of the power to influence the lives of others. . I would gather information from all around the world, gain knowledge and wisdom. When the time came I would release that information through my holes, affecting the lives of many. I desire to have that same power, the power of the Strainer one day.

How do I as a Strainer keep my holes from becoming to large? How do I keep the information that I allowed to come through the Strainer from being selfish and prejudice. The world would be depending on me to be truthful and indifferent. My holes must let the information out, but not so tight that I hold back. They would be depending on me, the Strainer to keep my holes professional.

Before the Law the Strainer had no voice. Now the Strainer has been given liberty. I, as the Strainer would know how to keep my personal opinions to myself. knowing the world might not agree with me. I will deliver the information and let the world come to there own conclusion. My job as a Strainer is very important, only facts should slip through the holes of the Strainer. I will hold back any non professional statements and emotions.

The holes of the Strainer are the most important part of your character. The Strainer must know with much liberty comes responsibility. I’m sure as a Strainer it becomes a challenge to take side of the subjects that affect me. It would be my responsibility to deliver with integrity. I must maintain my holes to be an effective Strainer.

    My Baptism

On January 12,2008 I became a baptized member of a new faith. Prior to baptism I had to study a series of Bible lessons and teachings to understand what happens when someone is baptized and what needs to be done when one takes that stand.

I chose to be baptized at the age of 9 because I wanted to change my way of life and to experience what spirituality is all about. I had to get prepared studying my Bible lessons nd learning of the new doctrinesand teachings of a Seventh day Adventist.

Seventh Day Adventists strive everyday to develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ to become like him and to serve otheres as he did. We look forward to his returning because He promised to return to Earth a second time to complete his plan of salvatipn and take his people to heaven. Each Sabbath we enjoy a 24 hour Sabbath rest as God hs made everything in creations in 6 days and rested on the Sabbath. During this time we join family and other believers in worship, fellowship, prayer, and communion with God.

I also learned of a new diet which the Bible teaches where certain foods should nt be eaten. God provides us with fruits, grains, vegetables, nuts, nd othere natural foods. I realized that this change in my diet was not for religious reasons but that it enables one to live a more healthy lifestyle. I am glad I learned this because a diet helps one not to have certain diseases such as cancer, heart attacks, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Now that I am who I have become, it makes me proud that others some day may follow by example and also change their way of living to serve God. I foud that others do not want to be my friend and invite me to parties or other fun activities on Saturday’s but that is fine with me because I have fun practicing in spiritual activities with other fellow members my age.

I enjoy growing in the goodness and love of Jesus. I have to remin focused and not doing wordly things in life but strive to serve Jesus. He doesn’t force anyone to surrender his/her life to him. He loves us all because we are all his children. All one has to do is come to Him witha willing heart, trust Him, accept Him,and follow Him.

I was an innocent child who had done nothing wrong. I was a very smart kid and always loved teachers. But, there is one thing that affected me the most and that was "Fear". "Fear" had made me terrified at sports. "Fear" had also made me scared at deep dark places. But, I remembered my grandmother telling me a story about a doorkeeper and a man. That story was called "Before The Law". In that story I learned, that you should not let fear control your life.

One day, I had my first swimming class. In that day, I made a goal. That goal was to become a professional swimmer. After 30 minutes in the car me, my cousin, my aunt and uncle had finally departed in the YMCA. My little cousin had to go to gymnastics which means that my aunt and uncle had to go watch her while I go alone in the swimming class. I felt kind of bad. But, I got to do what a mans got to do.

I finally made it into the entrance to the door. But, then I started to shake. I felt goosebumps going into my heart. I knew that "Fear" was going to come after me. Just when I was about to go back, someone opened the door and I got hit by the head. I fell to the ground dizzy. But, the man did not notice he hit me.

After the door hitting me on the head, "Fear" was gone. I was confused and did not know what happened. So, I went in the door and saw my swimming teacher. He was a very nice guy. We had a conversation about what we are going to learn about. When I got in the pool I saw at least 8 people. They were pretty good swimmers. But, they sometimes lack.

Finally, we got off the pool. But, it wasn't over yet. In the end we had to dive in the pool with heads first. I felt the "Fear" coming back again. I knew I couldn't give up. I remembered when my grandmother told me the story about "Before The Law". I remembered to not let my fears control your gaols in life and I knew my goal isn't going to end here. I finally went up. I felt courage and bravery. I knew that "Fear" has finally left me alone. So, I kneeled and pushed mself into the water. I have finally faced my biggest challenge. In conclusion, never let fear control your life. Always take a challenge and you can suceed it.

The passage “Before the Law” there is a foolish doorman. He comes to see the law and is turned down but he waits to see it at another time. He doesn’t realize that he is being tested by the door man. He tries later but still gets the same answer, that it wasn’t the right time to see the law or that it wasn’t appropriate time.
This old man sits for days then weeks then moths then years and still doesn’t achieve his goal. He curses his bad luck. Shouting when he’s young but grumbling to him self when he is in old age. Soon he tries hard by bribing the door keeper but he refuses it he doesn’t take his bribe for this door man knows what this man must do to achieve his goal.
This man looks back just about he is about to die. He thinks back at all he has done he thinks back at all he’s done since he has done since he got the gate the first time he got there. From the time he asked to see the law to the time he bribed the door keeper to cursing his bad luck. He looked back to all the time he was sitting there . It came to him that he was doing every thing wrong then he called over the door keeper and told him his answer then he died right there
I can relate to this in reality because in reality there are a lot of obstacles. And they are very hard to over come. It may be physical of mental. In physical obstacles you must have strengths and weaknesses. So use them wisely in this case you can use both physical and mental senesces. In life there are many challenges so use what it takes to get through tem try your best!

what this story means to me is that there is a man that is trying to get into the gate of the law.But there is a man called the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper does not let anyone in ontill it is there turn.so the young man asked if he can come into the gate of the law.but the gatekeeper says that it is not his turn yet.so the young man asked when it is my turn can you tell me .

so the gatekeeper says he will let him know.so the man stood till the gatekeeper gave him a seat .In that seat the man sat there for years and mounths.so the man had came to know the own flies in his fur coat.so the young man begged the flies if they can help him change the gatekeepers mind. But that did not work.

so the young man had to sit there and think of a way to change the mans mind. But he did not come up with any thing.so the man just sat there for more years and mounths.so when the young the man opened his eyes one day he thought that the world was getting dark but it was realy that his eyes where getting old.

so the gatekeeper looked at the young man one day and said you have come to the point .so the gatekeeper said i am know going to close the gate .so the man never got to go into the gate of the law.so this means if you want to do something you should do it while you are young.

"Before the Law" stands a doorkeeper, I begged him to stop bullying me. The doorkeeper looked at me and laughed. He was powerful. Or so it seemed. He stood in front of the gate of confidence. I just needed to be accepted by everyone. I needed to get over my lack of confidence, and my shyness. The doorkeper made it worse. I was scared.

These difficulties I did not expect to encounter in school. The law should not have permitted such a behavior. This went on for all of fifth grade. I became more withdrawn. I tried to be nice to the doorkeeper, but he did not accept me. I cried everyday, and told no one about my problems. Getting through the gate seemed more difficult. Do I want to continue school? Or do I want to bury my face in shame?

Now, I had moved to another grade, and there, once more, stood the doorkeeper. I fixed my attention only on the doorkeeper, calculating his every move, ignoring what was really important, My education, The one thing that could build my confidence, and also make me stronger. Everyday was a struggle. The doorkeeper continued to tease me, calling me names and laughing at me.

I thought to myself. I want to be strong. I must put a stop to this. I must stand up to the doorkeeper. I told the doorkeeper if he did not stop bothering me I would report him to the teacher. I wanted to tell the teacher, but I knew it would cause problems since other students in the class had joined him in teasing me. But I had to make a decision between right and wrong.

I did it! I told the teacher. I had passed through the gate. "Before the law" doing the right thing, like standing up for yourself is important. I wish I had done this earlier. Maybe I would have been more confident, or maybe I could have had more friends. The teacher punished him. It all ended. Now the doorkeeper looks at me blankly. He was defeated. I felt confident and strong. My shyness left me I finally passed through the gate. I overcame the doorkeeper.

This story is similar to mine when I tried to sign up for football .I had three obstacles that I had to overcome, which were my attitude,my weight and definetly my grades.I was always angery,I was overweight and had poor grades, and never seriouse about anything.

My attitude was awful towards my family for example, anytime my mom or my sister ever checked my homework and they marked anything wrong I would get mad and began to grumble. The time that I new that I had to change my attitude was when I saw the coaches train the players at my cousins football practice.I was also direspectful towords my teaches and also my tutor.

But, in order for me to play football was when I had to lose weight. I was suppose to play for the group that was my age but because of my weight they had to put me in a higher group of my weight and still needed to lose some pounds before I can even play my first game. The things that I had to do in order for me to lose weight was to go on a die, run everyday and don't eat fatty foods like pizza, chicken wings, cake and ice cream.

The other obstacle was to improve and maintain my grades which were very poor.I had D's and C's on all subjects besides gym.I had to do the best of my ability by pushing myself had to boost and maintained my grades.

The way that I overcomed my first obstacle was that I took all my anger out on the football feild in a positive way.I also overcomed my second obstacle by eating right and drinking skimed milk three times a day and always running.I ended up playing for my age group, and luckly for me, my team won every game we played. But, eventually, we lost the championship game that was suppose to lead us to florida. Then for my grades I ended up studying hard and passing every test I took . I pushed myself and ended up passing all my grades and getting all B's but just one C'.Finally through the gates the law now I shall contineu what I am doing and thats getting good grades and staying in shape.

    Before the law response essay

A man from the country had traveled from his home to the law wanting to gain entrance. He was a self proclaimed adventurer who said he feared nothing. After weeks of travel he reached the gate to the law.But Before The Law stood a doorkeeper. And when the man tried to enter the doorkeeper turned him away saying "Only the pure may have entrance to the law."

The man from the country did not understand. Why would the gate keeper who stood Before The Law turn him away.He turned around and asked why he would not be allowed in. And he was told by the gatekeeper."To know why you have not been allowed entrance you must look deep inside yourself and see your impurities. If you do not rid your self of these impurities you will not be granted admission."So the man turned away and thought.

But when he searched himself only his vision of himself was found. He saw himself as no less than perfect. So that is what he told the gatekeeper."I have looked inside myself and found no wrong."But the gatekeeper gave him a sorry look and said "You stand Before The Law and say you have no fault but you have yet to realize what it is that you have done wrong. Now leave and come back once you have truly found your faults and openly admit them.So the man walked away with a confused look in his eyes.

He returned to his family and told them what the gatekeeper had said. They too were confused and saw no wrong in their family member. But when the man from the country went into the town and asked hee was told that he was arogant and overconfident. He was told that he was dishonest and did not deserve entrance to the law. It was then that his self vision was destroyed and he saw his true self. He told his family and headed back to the law.

When he yet again reached the law he stood before it and tried to gain entrance. He told the gatekeeper that he had found his faults. The gatekeeper was satisfied and allowed the man from the country to enter. He said thank you for helping me realize myself and he walked in. The gatekeeper left the gate because know his job was done.

I was arrested by the police. They put handkuffs on me and pushed me into the car. When we got there they handed me a jump suit. The sheriff told me to get in the sell.He follows me into the sell.

The sheriff and I where in the cell together. He sat down next to me and started to talk to me.He asked me about my background.I said that I'm a man of the country and that my family is gone.I asked him when I could leave and he said later.

We talked and talk intill there was nothing to talk about. So then I asked if my sentence was up and he said yes. When he let me through I grabbed my stuff. The reason I was in there was because I couldn't wait.So I started a fight.

The police came and arrested me.While I was in there,I learned to wait.Even though I felt like telling the sheriff to be quiet.I didn't because thats how I got in there. So I wait patiently till my sentence was over.

The conclusion of the essay is that a man of the country was in jail. And he wanted admittance to the law,so he waited and waited. So then he got admittance to the law.He also learned his lesson after going to jail. This concludes lesson of the essay.

When I first started skating I was pretty afraid to get on the board, but after I started practicing I got better at it. I gained a better control of the skateboard, but not much else. I didn’t know any tricks and I couldn’t go on any of the ramps. Two years later I learned how to Ollie. An Ollie is just getting the four wheels off of the ground. I also learned how to ride down some small ramps. However, there was this one ramp that I was petrified of and the ramp is called “The Bowl”. It dips very sharply, so that it makes you go in a strait line for one quick second.
At the skate park, I would always do everything else but “The Bowl”. I would ride down the regular ramps and practice more tricks. Then I would hear it laughing at me because I was afraid to go inside and skate. It would always tease me whenever I came by, causing me to lose focus, and fall off of my skateboard. Usually when I fell, it laughed louder and harder so every other ramp or rail could hear. “The Bowl” ruled everything to me, so I guess I stood “Before the Law.”
My skateboard was always telling me to step up to “The Bowl” so I could ride in it at will. My skateboard was always arguing with it, so in the future I could show it whose boss. But I always turned my back and kept on riding. I always regretted it but… I don’t know, my time had to come one of these days, I thought. I always asked myself, “What is holding me back?” Even though I knew the answer, I asked that question a lot.
One day, after skating, I wanted to rest, so I asked my dad if he could pop the trunk so I could have a place to sit. I placed my skateboard down in the trunk and turned to watch the other skaters. When I turned back to get my skateboard, I saw the skateboard with a helmet, knee, wrist, and elbow pads beside it. Excited, I grabbed the items and put them on. I waited a little and skated with them on for a little while, so I could feel comfortable. I not only felt comfortable, but I also gathered courage as well. The next thing I had done was go over to “The Bowl” and challenged it. I was still a bit daunted, but after a little while, it became a charm. I felt great, and the bowl wasn’t laughing anymore. Now, I told “The Bowl” that IT stood “Before the Law.”
In conclusion, I was afraid to go down “The Bowl” alone and the skateboard wasn’t enough reassurance. I had to get more of “my friends” in order for me to conquer my fear. The pads, helmet, and skateboard gave me the courage to go forth and do it. I believed that I could go in “The Bowl” and I did. I think that if you have a positive mind frame, and the proper tools to help you, you can succeed in whatever your trying to accomplish.

Sunday afternoon 12 yr old Chris Jones was sitting in the living room watching TV when his mom walked in from a hard day at work. She sat down and told Chris about her long day and how she wished they could play a game together if she wasn’t so tired. Chris saw his mother yawning and said, “It’s okay mommy, I’ll watch TV.” His mom agreed and told Chris to stay in the living room and watch TV while she took a short nap. She told Chris not to leave the house or answer the door for anyone. Chris remains in the living room watching the rest of Zack and Cody on the Disney Channel.

At the end of Zack and Cody, Chris realizes the show is over and now feels bored. He looks out the window to see his friends outside playing ball next door. He remembers his mom saying “Don’t leave the house’ and he listens. After about 15 minutes of watching the other kids play and having a good time, Chris decides to join them. He quietly steps out the screen door and begins to play with the other children.

While playing with the boys the ball rolls into the busy street and onto the other side. He yells out “I’ll get it”. He waits for the right time to cross the street, but since it was taking longer than he thought, he decided to dash as fast as he could to get the ball. Realizing he made it safe one way; he does the same thing to get back to the other side. He dashes out into the traffic never seeing the blue Toyota. Chris is thrown into the air and onto the pavement.

When 911 is called by the driver of the car, the ambulance arrives and rushes Chris to the hospital. Ms. Jones heard all the noise and went to the living room to check on her son. When she looks around she sees the front door open and the screen closed. She realized he was no longer in the living room, she panicked and called his name but there was no answer. She began thinking the worse….’was he kidnapped…did he run away because she was too tired to play?’ Just then the hospital called to tell Ms. Jones what had happened. Since the family had no car, she had to take the bus to the hospital, the whole time wondering how this could happen? When she got there she was scared and upset. After speaking with the doctors, Ms. Jones was informed Chris had no serious injuries, just a sprained ankle and big bruise on the side of his head.

Ms. Jones hugged her son and he began to cry. She asked “Is mommy hurting you?” Chris said “No…. (and muttered) ” I’m sorry I disobeyed you and didn’t stay in the house” Ms Jones said “I’m just glad I can still hug you and tell you how much I love you and that your punished” Chris looked up at his mom and smiled and they both laughed. After Chris was released from the hospital they took the bus ride home talking about what had happened and how they were grateful for a second chance. When they got home they played Phase 10 for the next 6 hours spending quality time together.

    Standing Up or Sitting Out
Star was walking in the hallway with her books. POW!!! Star couldn’t believe it the school bully was picking on her AGAIN. Star didn’t even turn around she knew it was Rochelle who just shoved her into the water fountain. Everybody knew Rochelle wasn’t someone to get smart with. She had a bad attitude and a mean spirit. After Rochelle walked away Star picked up her books and walked to her next class. Anger and pain from being shoved into the water fountain was all Star could think of.
After Star walked out of her 2nd period class she saw Rochelle picking on another kid. But because Star was too scared of Rochelle to say anything she just walked on. As Star walked by she saw a group of popular girls telling a girl that she was ugly. It just seemed like everywhere Star looked someone was bullying someone else. She couldn’t wait to get home and talk to her parents; they always gave her good advice.
That night all Star could think about was Rochelle. When she went back to sleep she had a nightmare that Rochelle had pushed her into something hard and had hurt her really badly. The next morning on the bus she decided to do what her mother always told her to do when she was scared. So right before Star’s bus pulled up to the school. Star asked the Lord to give her strength and not a spirit of fear. After Star prayed she felt a lot better and that day Rochelle hadn’t even bothered her. Star knew the Lord could always help her in times of trouble.
The next afternoon while Star was walking to her bus to go home she heard a voice behind her shout “Hey You There”. Star was familiar with that voice all too well. When she turned around she was face to face with Rochelle. Rochelle said to her “Hey I heard you talking about me and you’re going to pay.” Star quickly denied it knowing that she never said anything about Rochelle. But Rochelle didn’t believe her. Right before Rochelle left she threatened Star by saying to her “YOU’RE going to be sorry for letting MY name come out of YOUR mouth” she screamed condescendingly.
Star’s stomach lurched all night. She had butterflies in her stomach, and all she could think about were Rochelle’s threatening words. The threat just kept ringing in her ears and millions of questions ran through Star’s mind. Would Rochelle try to hit her or publicly embarrass her? That night star lay awake all night. When Star got off the bus the next morning, she was really hoping she wouldn’t have to see Rochelle. Then all of her hopes of not seeing her were crushed. Star realized today was Friday and all of the girls in the middle school would be playing combined gym. As Star walked into the locker room she let out a sigh of relief. Rochelle hadn’t come up to her or said anything to her all day! As she walked to her gym locker with a smile on her face she didn’t realize Rochelle had walked up behind her. In a swoop of her hand Rochelle had managed to grab Star and knocked her head against the wall. SMACK!!! All the other girls saw Rochelle knock Star’s head into the wall and they immediately ran over to Star. But when they tried to wake Star up she would not get up. Rochelle knew she had drawn the line. She took it too far; she had actually hurt someone really badly. As Rochelle walked down the hall all she heard were ambulance sirens near the gym. Rochelle knew she was getting in BIG trouble.
When Star woke up she was in the hospital she couldn’t believe it had Rochelle actually hit her that hard. Just as she woke up a nurse walked in and told and told her that she suffered a severe concussion.
The next day when Star came in a lot of people gave her hugs, and surprisingly Rochelle was one of them. Star forgave her and in the end they actually became friends. And Rochelle definitely learned her lesson sometimes playing with someone can turn into a serious injury. Rochelle never bullied anybody ever again.

For Social Studies, I have prepared a 5 paragraph essay on an obstacle I have faced that is similar to ‘Before The Law’. This challenge I have faced and/or still facing is my aggressiveness while playing video games. First off, being a gamer girl is just now becoming common but I’ve been one for quite some time now. When I play, guys try to prove that girls/women shouldn’t play video games because we aren’t as good as them. But in the end, we prove them wrong and get higher ranks than them.
Because all the players on Modern Warfare 2 are either mean/rude, racist/ignorant, or low lives that try to get girlfriends online, there are really no people that just play to play. In game voices get me angry because it’s filled with the kinds of people I just told you about that I don’t like, so a smart thing to do that everyone does is turn off your microphone and blast music. Others would usually find someone to talk to in private chat when you forced to use in game voice because it’s someone that you usually talk to. I use both of those methods but I would choose to go for a match that lets me stay in my party so I can talk to my friends instead of talking to unfamiliar people.
Like the people who are rude unconditionally, I have gained my own anger from people killing me and telling me how horrible I am at playing or even talking way too much and blasting music into their microphones. Also, I have gathered my anger from outside Xbox Live. It’s gathering from being judged, labeled, and being made fun of in school and at my house, so, what do I do? I burn my current and gathering anger on video games. What do I do if I’m not angry? I would relax with music and play an R.P.G (Role Playing Game) to end the day happily.
To over come this issue that has taken my game life, I changed the music I listen to because most of it was Screamo, Alternative Metal, Grunge, etc. and all it did was make me sing and go nuts which is fun but I listen to less of it when playing shooting games because I have become to hyper with them. So now when I play, I listen to music just with easy going beats and a nice melody. Even so, I still listen to the same stuff I originally did when playing shooting games but I mix up the playlist so it’s easy to calm down and get hyped up.
The reason I chose this particular challenge is because I found it to be more interesting than getting past a grade or getting past a situation. But I know that either way, it would be illegible to compare to ‘Before The Law’ and is somewhat easy to tell the stories. I still use this method of relaxation because it lets off stress from people that bug me or situations that occur unexpectedly. Which begs the question, what do you do to give off stress?
