Certain events in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe will be discussed in the 2 following paragraphs. In this short essay response, I will include 2 quotes said by characters or stated by the narrator. Also, I will be discussing the questions that are listed above. I will be answering the questions in the following paragraphs. Here are my answers.

The missionaries believe that the traditional religion of the Igbo is very important.
Without the traditional religion , to them, they believe as if the religion is a necessity.
It is considered a necessity because as well as in schools, you have to follow the rules or traditions or practices. A necessity means something that is indispensable. In other words, you can use the word necessary to define necessity. In Things Fall Apart, missionaries felt as though not practicing the religion , is against the total practice of that religion or is strongly irreverent towards the religion.

Nwoye turned toward the missionaries because he believed that the missionaries were up to commit or do great things for the people of Umuofia. His father was turned away, due to the fact that his own son no longer wanted to follow his instructions but to go by another individual’s advice. According to Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe , Nwoye felt contemptuous about his honorable decision. His father felt as though his son was not proud or ‘humble’ to be his son. Okonkwo must understand that Nwoye is old enough to at least make a few decisions for his own well being.

The missionaries of igbo is like an annual hunting. The missionaries of igbo is to feed food to there family like the harvest of new yam. To Umofia it is traditoin and they have to keep doing it. If one person gets lost all the people have to look for them. Just like the quote jesus said.

The purpose of this was to praise ancestry. They did many wierd things like the wrestling celebration. They did this because they were a very ritual tribe. There ancestors did these rituals so now umofia has done these things as well. So it is only traditon.

Many other people did wierd things in this country. This is a sign of respect. The people of this tribe did this for a reason. This is a sign to praise ther gods and kings of umofia. And that is the missionary of igbo.

In "Things Fall Apart", the missionaries think that the traditional religion of the Igbo does not make any sense. That's because they believe in Christianity. They think that if people does not believe in the lord, they will not be saved when they die. The missionaries try to convince the people to believe in the lord. Now, the villagers are now impressed about their religion.

Nwoye turns to the missionaries and away from his father. That's because he is impressed with the missionaries. It made him think that all his problems are solved about Ikemefuna's death. Now, Nwoye is mean to his father and is not listening to him. This is what made Nwoye turn to the missionaries.

In conclusion, this is what the missionaries think about the traditional religion of the Igbo and what turned Nwoye to the missionaries. This all happened because of the different beliefs. Just like the missionaries and Nwoye. People would mostly stick on their own beliefs but, they get interested in other things. Like, how Nwoye wante to believe in another religion.

In the story "Thing fall apart" there is a man named Okonokw. He had lots of terditions. But there is a man named Nwoye that has a terdition that the missionaiery think is not stupid.what i mean is that they like it they feel like it is worth of there time to do the things that this man's terdition is.

What turn Nwoye turns to the missionairy is that he lives like one.He acts like one. and he thinks like one.that means if he live, act.thinks like one then he is going to be one.
He turns his father away because his father think that he is not proud to be his son .iI think he thinks that because he is mostly worried about the missionaire thing .and his currer.

Umoufia has been conquered by many different times of religions and races. There were Nigerians, Ibo people, Europeans, and other nationalities. All over the village were different races and all of the groups had a point to make about another race. Soon these races caused problems with another that Umoufia couldn’t handle.

Since there were Ibo people in the village, they all believe in the same thing basically. “In Things Fall Apart” the Ibo people had strong beliefs; even though they were not the same has European religions. They believed that there was a supreme god who made heaven and death who was called Chukwu. He was powerful and he made all the gods and the world. Ibo people were pretty much the same as Christians and they both believed in the same thing. Meanwhile, the European missionaries weren’t so happy about what they believed. They thought that the Ibo people believed in false gods of wood and stone. All the missionaries want to do is to erase the whole civilization and eliminate there beliefs.

Nwoye has been through tough times living with his father. His father Okonkwo beat him, treated him bad, hated him, and Okonkwo was at fault when Nwoyes best friend Ikemefuna was killed. That’s when Nwoye started not respecting his father and his race. He didn’t like the rules of a Ibo civilization and he basically hated his father. When the missionaries came to the village, Nwoye felt better with them and he liked the rules and beliefs. Therefore, Nwoye converted to Christianity to escape from his father. These actions outrage Okonkwo and bitter him from his own son’s betrayal to him and the Ibo civilization.

“In Things Fall Apart” Nwoye got his vengeance on his father as he betrayed him. For Okonkwo ruthless behavior on his son, Nwoye finally stepped up and wasn’t afraid to leave his father and the Ibo civilization.

The novel Things Fall Apart is a book centered around a man named Okonkwo and some of the people in his village. In this short essay answer I will be discussing the the religious beliefs of the Igbo people and why Nwoye is turninng against his father. My answers will be a mixture of fact and opinion.I will start with the religions of the Igbo people.

The Igbo people are a religious group of people who enforce the religious laws of Umofia. The religious laws of Umofia are as important as regular laws because they are put in place to keep order. They are enforced because it is said that when you disobey the gods the whole clan will be punished. For example the week of peace is a religious week. When those specific laws are broken the village is said to have a bad harvest.

Nwoye in the book seems to be turning away from his father.I believe that this is because of the way his father acts.In our day and time that type of behavior is considered abusive. He beats his son and familyy for the tiniest of things done wrong. This is to discipline them and control them. But if a person is pushed to a certain extent they could become rebelious. And I believe this is what is happening to Nwoye.

1.The missionaries opinion about the igbo is the same for every other culture that he doesnt respect.this missionary is replacing Mr.Brown and he shows no respect for indigenous customs of culture.

2.The thing that turns Nwoye on to the missionary is the fact that Nwoye has doubts about the laws and rules of his tribe.and thats basically how the new missionary acts so thats why Nwoye is so drawn to him.
But the reason why Okonkwo isn't drawn to him is because okonkwo believes in success and doesn't think like Nwoye does.he believes in the laws and rules of his tribe and personally doesn't want to deal with the missionary thatmuch unless he has to.

In the book "Things Fall Apart" the Ojbo religion is very different from many religions. They have many words that are hard to pronounce but mean very strong things. In a common phrase the Igbo people will say Bekee Wu agbara. The Igbo people hunt. They are very careful when hunting because if they loose somebody they have to search together for that person.

This is good because they treat each other with respect.Okonkwo does not necessarily follow the Igbo religion because of the way he acts.Okonkwo has beaten his wives and treated people badly. Also he has killed a person to show he is noble and strong. That does not show that he is noble and strong for his religion. They are not supposed to do things like this for the religion he follows.

The things that turn Nwoye missionaries into his fathers way is because he want to serve his village right the village of Umofia. His father did not want to.But he is not very proud of his son.Okonkwo makes Nwoye fell bad at times he does not understand that Nwoye wants to be sucessful.

The missionaries believed that this tradition is very important to Igbo because it has been around for many years and it has been passed on from generation to generation. It is also important to them because there ancestors have done it,it is also important to show respect to there ancestors and the people who created this tradition.

Nwoye turned to the missionaries because he thought that they would do prosperious things for Umuofia.Nwyoe turned to the missionarie because he was impressed of what they were capable of what they were going to Umuofia.Nwoye also turned to the missionaries because he thought that turning to them would change his life and the way he acts. The main reason why he joined them was because he thought he would be known for being a good person.

Another reason why Nwoye turned to the missionarie was because the way his father acted infront of him.His father had disrespected other traditions for example the week of peace,he had also beaten his wives if they had ever gotten him upset.Okonkwo had lose his temper at times when he was bothered.Sometimes Okonkwo had also beaten his wives for absolutly no reason. That was the reason why Nwoye turned to the missionaries.

In the sixteenth chapter of, “Things fall apart,” a group of missionaries came to Mbanta and proclaimed the word of God. They wanted to convert the religion of the people of Umuofia to Christianity. The missionaries said many things about the village’s traditional religion that persuaded the villagers to convert their beliefs. One of these people is in fact Okonkwo’s son, Nwoye. In this essay you will discover the missionaries’ opinion on the traditional religion of the Igbo and why Nwoye has changed to this new religion.

When the missionaries came to convert the people of Mbanta to Christianity, every man and women came out to see them. Then the white man began to speak through his translator. He told them that their gods are false gods made of wood and stone while his god was true creator of all things that dwell in on Earth. On page one hundred and forty-six, the missionaries said, “All the gods you have named are not gods at all.” He also proclaimed, “Your gods are not alive and cannot do you any harm, they are pieces of wood and stone.” This means that the missionaries’ opinion of the Igbo religion is that is it blasphemy to their god and the religion will do only harm for the people living in Mbanta. This is the missionaries’ opinion of the Igbo religion.

Even though Okonkwo and many others thought that the white man was completely irrational, there was one child in the tribe who was captivated, his name was Nwoye. There are many things that cause him become an evangelist of this new religion. One is that he was moved by the hymns about brothers who reminded him of Ikemefuna’s killing. Another thing is that the interpreter says, “They are gods of deceit who tell you to kill your fellows and destroy innocent children.” This interests Nwoye because he now knows if he had belonged to that religion, Ikemefuna would’ve been alive. Also it makes Nwoye turn away from his violent and unforgiving religion. This is the open-ended response question answer for, “Things fall apart.”

Today I read chapters 16, 17, and 18 in “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe. These chapters where describing about what happens Nwoye and the rest of Okonkwo’s family. So far in the story we have learned that Okonkwo doesn’t like anything that resembles his father or anything his father did. And if anyone would act like that he would not approve of it. Anytime Okonkwo didn’t do something excellent or the way he wanted he felt like he was being a failure. I think that Okonkwo was showing signs of a failure in my opinion because he was failing to be respectful to his wives and he kept ruining things for his family. This was in the previous chapters. In the chapters I read today the story was talking about how Nwoye leaving his family for the missionaries. Nwoye wasn’t Okonkwo’s favorite child but he did appreciate some things he did. After Nwoye had made his decision to leave the family Okonkwo had not approved so he beat him but Nwoye still left. In Matthew 18:12-14, Jesus tells a parable about a lost sheep, saying that if a person has a hundred sheep and one goes astray, he will leave the other ninety-nine and go to find the one that is lost. This sort of tied in to the story because Nwoye was the lost sheep out of the 99 others because he wanted to believe what the Christian missionaries did and Okonkwo was Jesus going out to save his one sheep. But in my opinion Okonkwo didn’t succeed in this task because Nwoye’s mind was set!

Nwoye was never disappointed Okonkwo as much as he did the day he found out Nwoye joined the Christian missionaries. Okonkwo was so angry he didn’t want to discuss it. The Christian missionaries are people who believe in Christianity. They believe without this there is nothing to focus on with their religion. However this is not what the other people in Umuofia felt they didn’t understand the importance of this. This made the missionaries feel disrespected in a way because what they practice is something that is like a routine or something you do or follow on a daily basis. If this isn’t followed it’s like breaking a rule that was meant to be followed. The Umuofians weren’t happy with the Christian missionaries building their church on their ground. I knew this because in the story they gave a phrase to show it. “They had built their church there; won a handful of converts and were already sending evangelists to the surrounding towns and villages.”

Nwoye had let the missionaries be his father figure instead of his actual father! Nwoye turned to the missionaries and away from his father. He had changed his behavior, personality, thoughts, what he thought of his father. This happened because he thought that the missionaries would help Umuofia and solve all the problems in everyone’s life. This was based on his opinion and his opinion was different than most of the Umuofians. Nwoye’s opinion also came from some of the things he heard from other people and what he saw himself. He thought this could help him start over again. The missionaries turned Okonkwo away because of what they wanted the Umuofians to do and how they wanted them to act. They wanted the Umuofians to leave their gods behind and worship their Christian gods. They also didn’t have any respect for the Umuofian beliefs which didn’t make Okonkwo happy. “If we leave our gods and follow your god,” asked another man, “who will protect us from the anger of our neglected gods and ancestors?” The Christian missionaries answered with this response. “Your gods are not alive and cannot do you any harm.”

The tradition of the igbo is that they have to do it. It is a must like when you get up in the morning ,and you say your prayers. They have to practice their religion. If they dont then it goes agianst everything that they believe in. Its a hardship.

Nwoye turned towards christianity because he didnt want to have the risk of breaking the status quo.He also didnt want to be an outcast of any nature. When someone like Nwoye makes a hasty descision like that it affects other people. They would want to be like the people that went outside their customs, and be different.Once some other people start to make a change the people that hasn’t changed ,wouldnt want to be the only ones that didnt’t so they will want to make the switch too.

He turned his father away because his father wasn’t believing in what he is. He was with the cristians and okonkwos cousin told him. Another reason is that he choked him because he didnt know where he was. Nwoye turned away because he did not want to be associated with his fathers behavior. He went on the right path which is the learning path.

In the book " Things Fall Apart" it talks about how Nwoye was turning away from his father. This dicussion is also going to be about the Igbo group which is an ethnic group. I'm basically going to give you my opinion about the ethnic group and how it works. Let me tell you what dicussion(s) I'm going to talk about.

The Igbo group is basically an ethnic gruop that applies religious laws for everyone. Each of their religious laws are there for a reason. If they are not followed there will be a certain consequence. Most of these laws are to respect the gods and clans. So, these people are very important.

The final situation in " Things Fall Apart" was when Nwoye was turning away from his father. Nwoye was very disapointed and scared of Okonkwo. He was afraid because he did'nt want to end up like his father. For example when Okonkwo called Nwoye to sit with him Nwoye tried to slip out of the hut as soon as Okonkwo started to doze off and fall asleep. This was the kind of fear that okonkwo encountered with his father.

In "Things Fall Apart", the pages and chapters have lead to Part 2 of the book. In part 1, it explains the good life Okonkwo had.
Now in Part 2, I think that Okonkwo will suffer more. Now that missionaries have traveled Umofia, and they will leave some influences bad and good. "In Matthew 18:12-14, Jesus tells a parable about a lost sheep, saying that if a person has a hundred sheep and one goes astray, he will leave the other ninety-nine and go to find the one that is lost." I think this is an example of how Okonkwo's life could be. Now that his son, Nwoye, converted to a different religion, Okonkwo could try and bring him back to his traditional one of Igbo. The next few paragraphs will answer how these changes in Religion, will affect everything in Okonkwo's life or the whole tribe of the land.

During "T.F.A", Men of white skin color came. They spread the goods of Christianity (and
in my opinion, modern technology.). They say that if you worship God, you will not be tortured and will live happily in his kingdom. There opinion about the religion of Igbo is the same as a Christian/Religious fanatic, WRONG RELIGION. They would say that you could go to hell if you still obey the religion of Igbo.

When Nwoye heard of this, he joined the religion of Christianity. He didn't understand the concepts of it. He joined it because the Religion of Igbo haunted him. It's practices and rituals led to the death of Ikemefuna (which still haunts him)that could've influence him to find a better way to live than follow the customs of this religion. The words of the missionaries also sort've felt right to him and still puzzled him. But by doing this conversion denies his father's way of life and the people around him.

  19. In these two short paragraphs, I will be explaining the importance of the Missionaries opinion of the Igbo. Also, i will try my best to give out a clear answer(s) in each question.

The missionaries religion tradition is important because it shows them out. It shows that they have strong men (wretsling celebration)and that they are capable of living by themselves and hunting(the gathering of the Locosts.)

Nwoye turn to the Missionaries because he finds them more interesting and his father was demanding so the missionaries might not be. Also, Nwoye's father would be the one sheep that is taken and left out of the herd(Missionaries) and Nwoye is in the crowd of sheep.

In the book “Things Fall Apart” missionaries come to Umuofia. The missionaries build their church there. Also they are sending evangelists to surround the towns and villages. “We have been sent by this great god to ask you to leave your wicked ways and false gods and turn to him so that when you die you will be saved.” The missionaries basically want them to stop worshipping false gods and become saved.

In “Things Fall Apart” the missionaries think Igbo isn’t really a good traditional region. I think that because their religion is Christian and Igbo isn’t so they don’t like them. The missionaries only believe in one god. Also they said you have to be saved and believe in God to get into Heaven. Basically if you don’t believe in God or is saved you won’t be going to Heaven.

Nwoye and Okonkwo haven’t ever had a close relationship. But when Ikemefuna came they started to have a closer relationship. But now that he is dead they remain the same as before. Now that the missionaries are here he wants to become saved and change his religion. Okonkwo is proud of Nwoye that he wants to become one of the missionaries and be Christian.

In chapter 15 of "Things Fall Apart", Obierika tells the story about how a white man on a bicycle comes to a town called Abame. After he did not say a word to the villagers they still decided to kill him. They tied his bike to their sacred tree. Later on some more white men came to Abame and seen the bicycle and thought that is what was going to happen to them. Then Abame was destroyed.

Two years later Obierika goes to Mbanta to see Okonkwo.Obierika tells okonkwo that he saw Nwoye with christan missionaries. The narrator tells a story abot six missionaries leaded by a white man. They have traveled to Mbanta. The leader tries to talk to the village through a interpreter. The missionaries talk about how the village worship's fake gods. That their gods are made of wood or stone. The missionaries say that their gods can't do anything. They try to explain that there is only one god. But the people from the village do not understand.

I think Nwoye never belived in all the things his father belived in. Maybe in his heart he always felt that all these gods were not really nessesary. Okonkwo was harsh on Nwoye so he probly wanted more kindness in his life, then what his father gave him. The missinaries are probly nice to Nwoye, and treat him with respect just like everyone eles. Nwoye wanted his life to be better so he turned from his father and went to travel with the missionaries

The book Things Fall Apart is a book I’m reading. It’s about this man named Okonkwo and some of the men and woman in his village. In this short answer I will be discussing the religious beliefs of the Igbo people. Also I will talk about why Nwoye turned against his father. I will start the essay about the religions of the Igbo people.

The Igbo people are people who enforce the religious laws of Umofia. The religious laws of Umofia are as important as regular. They are enforced because it is said that when you disobey the gods the whole clan will be punished. For example the week of peace is a religious week. When those specific laws are broken the village is said to have a bad harvest.

Nwoye in the book seems to be turning away from his father. I believe that this is because of the way his father acts. In our day and time that type of behavior is considered abusive. He beats his son and family for the tiniest of things done wrong. This is to discipline the village and have a maintain environment. If someone pushed a person too far they may become more tough and wild. This is what I think is happening to Nwoye.

While Okonwko and his family are living in Mbanta during his exile, his friend Obierika comes to visit him twice. On his first visit, Obierika brought good news and cowries for Okonkwo. After loosing everything, a visit from his good friend lifted Okonkwo’s spirits. The second visit by Obierika, almost two years later brought bad news. Many things changed not only in Umofia, but also with Okonkwo’s family.

The missionaries opinion of the traditional religion of Igbo was that their beliefs were wrong. In Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” a missionary told the men of Igbo that, “We have been sent by this great God to ask you to leave your wicked ways and false gods and turn to Him so that you may be saved when you die.” Unlike the men of Igbo, the missionaries believed that there was only one God. The missionaries preached that the gods of Igbo told them to kill mend and destroy innocent children. They also believed that the gods of Igbo were not alive and could do no harm.

Nwoye and Okonkwo felt very differently about the missionaries. Nwoye liked the missionaries because he felt they were more peaceful. “It was the poetry of the new religion, something felt in the marrow.” Nwoye didn’t really understand what the missionaries were preaching but he liked the way it sounded. Okonkwo liked war and blood. In “Things Fall Apart,” the author says that “Okonkwo, who only stayed in the hope that it might come to chasing the men out of the village or whipping them,” questioned the logic of the missionaries.

  24. Things Fall Apart

In the book Things Fall Apart the missionaries believe that the people of Igbo worship a false god. Also in Things Fall Apart what turns Nwoye on his father is that his father wont accept him becoming Christian. In this response I will tell youthe missionaries opinion on the Igbo’s religion and why Nwoye turns on his father.

The missionaries opinion on the traditional religion of Igbo is that they worship false gods. This is the missionaries opinion because Igbo’s god could be real to them. This is also an opinion because the Igbo people could be atheist, though it say’s their not. Another way this is an opinion is because the Igbo people deeply believe in the earth goddess and to them the missionaries god is fake. This is what the missionaries opinion is of the traditional Igbo religion.

What cuases Nwoye to turn on his father is the fact that his father wont accept him being an interpreter for the missionaries. Since Okonkwo does not like the missionaries or what they preach he disowned his son. Okonkwo found out his son was an interpreter for the missionaries is when he went to the market he saw his son. From that point on Okonkwo disowned his son from shame. This is what caused Nwoye to turn on his father.

The missionaries believe that the traditional Religion of the Igbo is foolish because they don’t care about it and it does not make sense to them. They think this because they believe in something else. The missionaries are people that spread their word of god and they are Christian. They said that if they don’t follow their lord then they will not be peaceful when they die. So now the missionaries are basically brainwashing the villagers in to being interested in their own word of god.

Nwoye turns to the missionaries because he in very interested in what they do. Ever since Ikemefuna died Nwoye was a mess and so he thought that in believing the missionaries his problems are all good. Nwoye is turning away from his father because he likes the missionaries and Okonkwo doesn’t so now Okonkwo is mad with rage because of him. Also Nwoye is being stubborn because he is now ignoring his father and is going to keep going to the missionaries

So these two paragraphs are all about what the missionaries think and how Nwoye is interested with them and how he is disobeying his father. So now Okonkwo is in rage because of Nwoye. Nwoye just wanted to believe in a different religion but now he has to do it by disappointing his own father.
